Things to do
FISHING FOR THE WORLD’S LARGEST RIVER FISH.
In Esquina, Goya, Bella Vista, Empedrado, Paso de la Patria, Ita-Ibaté
and Ituzaingó you can catch dorado, a very aggressive fish which
can weigh up to 25 Kg, the pacú, 15 Kg, the surubí, a
large catfish which can weigh up to 60 Kg, and smaller fish from the
banks of the Uruguay river. Fishing season runs from March to September.
In August, the Dorado National Festival is celebrated in Paso de la
Patria.
LIVING IN ESTANCIAS. Lodging may be arranged
in "estancias" (ranches), to go trekking, horseback riding,
and sightseeing of the local flora and fauna.
FIESTAS AND CHAMAMÉ. Several popular
fiestas are celebrated in this region. Carnivals in Corrientes, Esquina
and Paso de los Libres have obtained international fame and prestige.
This is the land of the chamamé, an unmistakable and singular
musical rhythm, which National Fiesta is held in Corrientes in the month
of December.

Places to visit
CORRIENTES. Capital of the province located
on the banks of the Paraná, one of the fastest flowing rivers
in Argentina, crossed by the General Manuel Belgrano Bridge leading
to Resistencia, capital of the province of Chaco. Among the city’s
ancient monuments are the church of the Santísima Cruz de los
Milagros and the convents of San Francisco and La Merced. Interesting
museums: Colonial History, Bellas Artes (Fine Arts), Franciscan, Crafts,
and Natural Sciences.

ESTEROS DEL IBERÁ: The Guaraníes’
"Shinning Water". A complex ecosystem which includes 700,000
hectares of swamps, 31,500 hectares of lagoons, and 52,000 hectares
of marshes, inhabited by all kinds of wild animals, such as turtles,
yacaré alligators, monkeys, swamp deer, carpinchos - the largest
rodent in the world - and 368 bird species.
Other places of interest: Yapeyú,
General San Martín’s birthplace; Paso de los Libres, a
town with peaceful and beautiful river beaches; Yacyretá hydroelectric
dam, one of the largest in the world; Basílica Nuestra Señora
de Itatí, faith sanctuary; and Empedrado, with its impressive
sandstone cliffs.
