Things to do
Skiing. The country's northernmost winter sport centers are located here. Las Leñas ski resort has 24 slopes totaling 63 Km for Alpine, Nordic and extreme skiing.Its base lies 2,256 m above sea level and its maximum height is 3,430 m. Ski-lifts are very close to the hotels and the snow is of the best quality; powdery, dry and compact. Other ski paradises are Penitentes and Vallecitos.
Adventure Tourism. Hang-gliding in the mountains. Canoeing and windsurfing in reservoirs and lagoons. Rafting on the Mendoza, Diamante and Atuel rivers. Mountaineering, trekking and trips on horseback through the Andes mountain range (Cerro Aconcagua, Valle de Los Molles, and Las Leñas).
Sport fishing. The rivers, streams, reservoirs and lagoons of this region are ideal for fishing, mainly salmon and pejerrey.
Wine cellars and Fiestas. You should visit one of the famous Mendoza wine cellars and the Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia, a fiesta celebrating the grape harvest held at the beginning of March.

Places to visit
MENDOZA, CULTURAL CAPITAL. This is a
pleasant city with clean, tree-lined streets and 500 Km of irrigation
channels. An active cultural life revolves around its universities,
theatres, museums and art galleries.
ACONCAGUA, "THE STONE SENTINEL". From Valle de los
Horcones you can admire the south-east face of 6,959 m high mount
Aconcagua, the highest peak in the whole western hemisphere. Further
north you come to the statue of the Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer)
which marks the pass Paso de la Cumbre, and the tunnel that leads
into Chile.
Other places of interest: San Rafael,
economic capital of southern Mendoza, and the Cañón
del Río Atuel; Malargüe and Cueva de las Brujas (Witches'
Cave); Laguna de Llancanelo and the volcanic region of Payún
Matrú; Uspallata and Puente del Inca (Inca Bridge); Tunuyán
and Tupungato.
